For our second week, we began reading the first Chapter of Maribeth Price's Mastering ArcGIS Pro. I have previously used versions of this textbook during EXPT as well as my first two courses in the BGIS program, although they were versions aimed towards ArcMap. As such much of this first chapter is 100% review. However, the end of the chapter specifically talks about the ArcGIS interface and the project structure that ArcGIS pro adopts to organize projects.
Beyond this, we had a slide-pack that is a brief introduction of GIS Cartography and some definitions of maps and what that they might be within a GIS. Maps are simply a representation of geographic data and are found as two basic types: reference and thematic. While GIS Cartography is simply cartography done with GIS, making it the tool and product of the GIS professional.
I have continued to use Obsidian to take notes and paired with Anki to create and review flashcards, and am having good success with the method, although there have been a few hiccups, and I need to double-check and make sure each new card is parsed properly before syncing with the cloud. Overall this system looks pretty good and is much easier to approach than the stacks of paper flashcards I have used in the past. I also learned this week that it is pretty easy to incorporate images into the flash cards, so having a few "label the interface" was pretty easy to accomplish.
